Jack’s Bread: Bread Machine White Bread

My husband is quite the cook. His bread machine pizza is so good that the guests that have eaten it have all told him he could open up a pizza joint. His apple pie is so yummy it is hard to stop at one piece.

His specialty is comfort food. You know those things filled with starches and fats that make you feel so good! Which is probably why it is a good thing he only cooks for the family 1 to 2 nights a week maximum, any more than that and I would be having to buy bigger pants on a regular basis.

crock pot beef stew medium

One of his favorite meals for fall and winter is crockpot beef stew and bread machine bread. The bread is, of course, served warm and smothered in butter.

All of my family’s other favorite bread machine recipes are the type where just the dough is made in the machine and then it rises on the counter and is cooked in the oven, but my husband’s white bread recipe is done entirely in the bread machine.

White bread machine breadThat, of course, means that one end of the bread ends up with a hole in it, but no one seems to mind. It also means the slices are huge and square, but again no one seems to mind that either. In fact, a loaf is gone with just one dinner.

Since only my husband tends to make this bread and his name is Jack we call the bread “Jack’s bread”, even though essentially all it is just white bread.

You will notice that the recipe calls for milk but if you are low on milk, you can use hot water from the tap and then add 1/3 cup instant dry milk in with the dry ingredients. I have done this a time or two with great results. (mostly because I don’t like running to the grocery store mid-week so I try to make sure our milk lasts  🙂 )

Oven Directions For Jack’s Bread Machine Bread

You can also cook this in the oven if you prefer. To do so simple set your bread machine to the dough setting. When the dough is done shape it to the size of a bread pan and then place it in a lightly greased bread pan. Allow the dough to rise for one hour. Preheat your oven to 350F at the end of the hour. Place bread in the oven and allow it to bake for 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it.

I really don’t know. I have both a 2 pound and a 1 1/2 pound machine and it turns out fine in both.

An instant dry yeast available at Sam’s Club in 1 LB bags (since we go through a lot) However Fleischmann’s is also a good brand and available in most grocery stores in either packets or small jars.

If i use regular flour instead of high protein, would that make the bread more dense?

Do you mean regular flour instead of unbleached flour? If so then yes it would probably turn out more dense.

    Hello,
I have a cuisinart convection bread machine and always I was making bread from the recipe book it came with but it doesn’t have a too big selection. I found your post with a few recipes that I want to try and 1st is this white bread. Do you know which setting on my machine will correspond to your medium basic loaf setting? Ty.

Pretty much ever bread machine I have bought over the years has a “basic loaf” setting. that should do.

I’m new to bread machine bread making (well honestly, ANY bread other than cornbread). I bought a used machine at the thrift store. I looked up the manual online and the manual says to add dry ingredients first then fluid. Will Jack’s Bread turn out the same if I it dry ingredients the wet? Sorry for the stupid question. 🫣

Yes, it will turn out just fine if you do the dry and then wet. At least, I think it would.
