Ingredients For Chocolate Truffles
These chocolate truffles contain just 3 ingredients butter, powdered sugar, and cocoa.
Plus something to coat them in (or you can eat them plain too if you want to).
I have made these truffles for close to 20 years and I am still discovering yummy things to coat them with. I have dipped them in chocolate and rolled them in coconut or chocolate sprinkles. The day I took photos for this shot though we rolled them in crushed Oreos and peppermint candies.
Supplies Needed To Make Chocolate Truffles
Glass or metal bowl.
A metal spoon ( a serving spoon like this one works well, just a bit bigger than a regular spoon but not too big).
Flat bottomed bowls such as a pasta bowl to place coatings.
I have made these truffles for close to 20 years and I am still discovering yummy things to coat them with. I have dipped them in chocolate and rolled them in coconut and sprinkles.
But this year I rolled them in crushed peppermint candies and Oreo cookies.
The list of ingredients and steps are below but here are a few tips.
First always make sure to take your butter out hours before you intend to make truffles so that is soft.
Second cut the butter up into small pieces and use the back of a metal spoon to blend it in the other ingredients.
Wash your hands really well and then in the final stages of blending, get them right in the dough and mash the ingredients together until they form a solid mass of soft dough
One last tip, don’t make your truffles too large you want people to be able to pop them in their mouth and enjoy.

Have you ever added any flavorings to the chocolate mixture? I’m thinking almond extract, or coconut…
Victoria says
I haven’t but I would think it would work. If it made the dough a bit moist just add a bit more powdered sugar.
Stephanie says
You could also add little nuts, coconut, etc to the actual truffle itself! Oh, the possibilities are endless… 🙂

This was supposed to be FIVE stars – not sure what happened!

can these recipes be frozen up till xmas? I want to give them as gifts
Victoria says
Although I have not done it personally, I think that these chocolate truffles could be frozen. You might want to test a batch first before making up several at once. Freeze them for 24 hrs perhaps and take them out and then see what happens. But I really don’t think there would be any change in taste, or texture if they were frozen.
Jami says
Do these need to be kept cold?
Victoria says
Yes, they do. I will have to take second to add that to the post. They do okay if left out for a few hours, but they do become fairly soft after that. I keep mine in a sealed container in the fridge and if giving them as a gift tell others to do the same.
Kathy A Johnson says
I did add the almond and rolled them in sliced almonds. However, instead of adding more powdered sugar, I added about three tablespoona of cocoa to make them dark chocolate. then, rolled then in powdered sugar.
Victoria says
That sounds like a really yummy combo! Thanks for leaving it here for others to try.
Meems says
isn’t a stick of butter only a quarter cup? Did you mean a stick or do you need a half cup?
Victoria says
A stick of butter is 1/2 a cup. At least where I live. I never thought that it might be something different in other areas. You need 1/2 a cup of butter.
Zelda says
Could I use coconut oil instead of butter?
Victoria says
I don’t know? It coconut oil tends to get softer than butter. You could experiment by cutting the recipe in half and giving it a try. That way you wouldn’t waste as much should it not work.
