So this week I started in a room I have been dreading to simplify for quite some time now – our master bedroom. In our house, though it should be renamed “master dump room.”
Our master bedroom is where we dump stuff that we don’t know where to store while we are working on remodeling projects in our home. The problem is months, years even, after the remodel project is done the stuff is still in our master bedroom.
The room itself isn’t that large which makes the problem worse. Plus, I also have a tiny area where I do my blogging work making the room feel even more crowded.
Looking at the mess is overwhelming to me. I decided to take a bit of my own medicine and “snail pace it.” I started with a tiny area.

This is my night stand. Now the only one responsible for dumping stuff here is me! I clear it off once a month or so but life has been busy, and it has been several months since I have decluttered it.
In case you are wondering about the jump rope. Jump rope is something I never conquered as a child (super klutzy, still am really) so well over a year ago I decided to buy one and finally conquer it. Haven’t quite gotten around to that goal yet.
I cleared the entire top of the bedside table off and gave it a good dusting with Method wood cleaner. I like the low odor scent of it.
I found around one dozen ponytail holders in amongst all the stuff that was on my nightstand. The discovery caused me to march into my daughter’s room and apologize. You see I had blamed her for losing them all.
I am in the middle of growing out my bangs, and I rip out my ponytail holder just as I turn out the light out each night. Why I never thought to check my nightstand in the morning when I was looking for one to put in my hair for the day is beyond me.
Much better. Just what I use each night is on the nightstand. My devotional, gratitude journal, my jar full of homemade lavender coconut body cream and a jump rope. Okay so I don’t use the jump rope each night, but I couldn’t bear to throw it out yet.
Why? because I am a big believer in inching forward in goals. I might not have made time for conquering the jump rope yet..but… there is always next year.
In the mean time, I promise I will find a better home for it. 🙂

What a great idea! We’re hoping to buy our first home soon, and when I get overwhelmed my clutter, I tend to just shove it somewhere else where I don’t have to look at it. You have some really great ideas for simplifying and making the clutter actually go away as opposed to out of sight.

My husband does the “shove” method, when I reach the attic this year during this challenge his “shove” method will be exposed. If I ever feel like shoving I just walk up the stairs to the attic and am motivated not too! LOL.
