Week 40! That means there are just 12 weeks left until the end of this 52-week challenge for the readers that have joined me since January 1 and me. If you joined later don’t worry I will still keep the Facebook group active after the challenge finishes so that people can keep going.

This is the pile in the master bedroom that I have been dreading to show you. It isn’t that bad, but what I don’t like about it is it has sat by my husband’s side of the bed now for a year and a half.

In that time it has shrunk by a few boxes but never disappeared. It started when we converted our homeschooling area into a 4th bedroom. We had friends coming over in the middle of renovating, and I had to get the stuff that was in the homeschooling room out of the dinning room. So I stacked it all up beside the bed, and there it has sat for a year and a half.

I reduced it in size once about a year ago and had grand plans of finishing the job – then I got busy and sort of forgot about it.

Thankfully my husband never complains.

I decided the best snail pacing way to get through this clutter mountain is one box at a time.

I grabbed one box earlier this week and brought it down to the family room. I then grabbed an empty box from the basement and a garbage bag.

Just under 1/3 of the contents of the box went straight to trash. I put away another 1/2 dozen items or so in their proper places around our home. The rest of the items I tossed in the keep “but not sure where” box. Quite a few of the items in this box are home improvement items that I will let my husband put away in the shed by himself –he has his system for things out there, so it is best if I just let him do it.

This week I am switching the girls clothes from spring/summer to fall/winter. We get ALOT of hand-me-downs. Yesterday we filled two boxes and a bag with larger size clothes that both of my daughters don’t like. There is no sense storing clothes that they will later fit into but don’t like.

At first I thought I would take the clothes to a thrift store. Then I decided I would just post them for free on craigslist. Someone came last night and picked them up.

I am always surprised by how much time I spend as a mom on clothing needs. Switching seasons is time consuming when you are a mom.
