Do you rush from the end of your children’s summer break to the day after Christmas and then wonder, “Hey! Where did fall go?” Don’t let that happen this year--be intentional about slowing down and enjoying fall.
Use this list of 10 ways to slow down and enjoy fall to pick out a few things you want to make time for so that you savor fall for the wonderful season it is.

1. Take a walk or hike in the woods when the leaves are changing colors
There is almost nothing that soothes my soul more than hiking in nature. Sometimes I swear I can physically feel the weight of my day to day stress falling off me just a bit more with each step further into nature. The beauty of creation is constantly putting on a show and the fall colors are a pretty spectacular part of it.
Challenge yourself to try a new hike in your area when the fall colors of the leaves are in full force. Use the AllTrails app to find new hikes in your area.
2. Collect some leaves and decorate your home with them
Remember making art with the leaves when you were a child? Do it again! Go out there and gather some leaves and decorate your house with them. Here is a Pinterest board I started to give you a few ideas of what you might create with the Falling leaves around your home.
3. Buy or make your favorite fall drink and take time to really enjoy it
To me, fall hasn’t truly arrived until I have had a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. Of course, I use gift cards earned through point programs to pay for my indulgence. Perhaps you don’t feel it is fall until you have enjoyed a mug of hot apple cider or hot chocolate, or perhaps you think of spiced chai when the weather begins to offer up cooler mornings.
Go ahead and treat yourself to whatever drink it is that puts you in a fall mood–but don’t just grab it and go. The whole point of this post is to encourage you to slow down and savor the moment. Grab your fall drink and find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy every last sip.

4. Curl up in front of a fall view and read a good book
You can do this one indoors or out. Either way, grab what you need to cozy up and enjoy the view and a book. Bonus points if you can find a book with a fall theme.

5. Make something with pumpkin or something pumpkin-shaped
I have an entire Pinterest board devoted to pumpkin recipes–go ahead and pick one and bake it up. Not a fan of the taste of pumpkin? Then bake some sugar cookies in the shape of pumpkins instead or you could use a fall leaf cookie cutter too.
6. Visit the pumpkin patch, a corn maze, or an apple orchard–with or without kids
Who says you have to have young kids to visit a corn maze, apple orchard or pumpkin patch? Grab your spouse or a friend and get out there and have some fall fun.
7. Go puddlegramming
If you are wondering what puddlegramming is, jump on Instagram and search the hashtag puddlegram–you’re welcome. After the next fall rainstorm put on some colorful rubber boots and take some puddle pictures of your own, don’t forget to jump in a few too (and no–you are never to old to do that).
8. Treat yourself to some fall scents
Make you whole home smell like fall with this set of 3 fall-scented candles. Relax in a hot bath filled with two cups of epsom salts and one cup of baking soda and soak as you enjoy the fall aroma.
9. Have friends over for a fall-themed thrifty swap party
Save money and enjoy time with your friends by hosting a fall-themed swap it party. The theme could be a sweater and boots swap, a halloween costume swap, or a fall decor swap.
10. Create your own fall bucket list of at least one small thing to do to slow down and savor fall each week
Fall lasts for approximately 12 weeks–at least according to the calendar. Get out a pad of paper and write the numbers one through twelve down one side of it. Beside each number write down something fall-like you want to slow down and enjoy this season. You can start with whichever of these nine ideas of mine you liked and then add to it with your own ideas or search Pinterest or Google for more.
