Now that you have done your research of your new area both online and in paper it is time to decide just what you want to explore.
I suggest calling a family meeting after allowing everyone a few days to go through all the pamphlets you got at your new visitor center.
Bring a pad of paper a pen and all the pamphlets to the meeting and then ask everyone what they want to see. List down every last desire your family has from the little things, like seeing the neighborhood park to the biggest things like camping for a week at the major lake three hours north of you.
Once you make the list avoid the pitfall of making but not doing. Set a goal to see at least one new thing a month as a family. Each month let a new family member pick an event that suits your current budget.
If there are a few big places on your list to see, like perhaps seeing several things in the capital city of your new state, make a point of making this your vacation for the year. By taking a vacation in your new state you will not only save money over taking a vacation further away but you will also help create that feeling of “home” in your new state.
Ask a new friend to visit some of these sites with you. Even if the person you invite has lived in your area for years they may have not seen the place or it may be one of their favorites and the will end up being a great tour guide for your outing.
