This week marks the 1/2 way mark for my decluttering journey! I am very excited about the progress I have made in simplifying our home.
Each and every week another area of clutter is gone and with it our home gets that much easier to clean.

This week I worked on my nightstand area. I am not showing you the inside of all the drawers this week because…well….there are unmentionables in these drawers and I am not going to expose my “drawers”. 🙂
The middle drawer as you can see was shoved with books an paper junk, and I really wanted to get the basket of magazines gone.
There was a lot of paper junk hiding in those drawers. Most of it was magazine articles I teared out thinking I would make the craft, or try out the recipe. I resisted the urge to look through them and instead dumped them all saying “there is always pinterest”.
I went through all the magazines and tossed all those that I had either read already or knew I wasn’t going to get around to reading. I try out a lot of magazines through free subscription deals and honestly only read my favorites.
I know with in one issue of a magazine if it is going to be a new favorite and really need to start tossing new issues of those that are not must read titles into the recycling bin the minute they hit my doorstep once I have skimmed through them for coupons.
I got rid of enough unmentionables to devote the bottom drawer of my nightstand to books to read as well as my copies of The One Year Bible (I have it in 2 bible versions thanks to yard sale finds and like to rotate versions each year, although this year I took a year off from them to do another type of bible study)
I did manage my goal of getting rid of the basket in front of my nightstand. Now if I could just get around to repainting both my nightstand and my husbands. They were both yard sale finds from years ago. I have grand plans of painting them to match and getting them the same drawer knobs so that they look almost identical but…well…perhaps another year I will tackle all my refinishing furniture projects.

We have been going through a version of this too. Admittedly I have fallen off the wagon and this motivates me to keep on trying!
Victoria says
Yes! I hope you get back on the wagon. Honestly the only thing that keeps me on it some weeks is knowing I have 100’s of people each week who read this series post. I don’t want to let them down. Bonus is my home is starting to look really good thanks to that.

If you have elementary schools or daycares close by they often are in need of used magazines (maybe not Cosmo or Glamour!). They use them for projects in the classroom. My kids’ school is always asking for some.
Victoria says
Thanks for the tip. I have a few teacher friend’s so I will ask them and then if they want them start collecting them for them.

Yesterday I cleaned out the girls craft box. I found lots of things to toss and a few things to put in the end of summer yard sale pile. I also cleaned under my oldest daughter’s bed. There was only one thing under there to put in the yard sale box. The rest just needed to be organized.
Victoria says
Great job! I find kids craft boxes can be time consuming, they collect so many little odds and ends.
