At the end of each year, I like to spend time praying to God for one word to do a word study on at the start of the next year. That word becomes my word for the year. In the past, I have studied diligence, love, stewardship and a few more.
This year my word is PUSH. At first when I heard it in my mind I said “how in the world am I going to do a word study in the bible on the word push” then the longer I prayed and thought on the word push I realized “fear” would be the word I will study, because it is fear that stops me from pushing.
It is fear that stops me from pushing to being all that Christ meant me to be. Fear that stops me from pushing myself to pursue WOW goals that fill my heart with a sense of passion and excitement. Fear that stops me from pushing to reach further than I have ever reached. It is fear that makes me squash sadly not just my own dreams but the dreams of those I hold most dear before they even get a chance to give them a push.
I have heard that fear is mentioned in the bible 365 times, once for every day of the year since God knew it would be a tactic the enemy would use to hold us back from pursuing all we can be in Christ. I plan to study all 365 of those verses. While I do I will bookmark where I am in my current goal to read through The Message so I can pick it up again when I am done.
Words fail me when it comes to expressing how word studies have shaped my faith. I encourage you to start your own. I use the Strong’s Bible Concordance as my guide and usually have several versions of the bible out at once as well as a Webster’s dictionary since that helps me to grasp the full meaning of each verse I study.
