I was one of the random 1000 people selected to get the privilege to read “Say Goodbye To Survival Mode” by Crystal Paine before it is released to the general public.
I read the book nodding my head to all of Crystal’s suggestions of how to break out of survival mode and start living life to the fullest. You see I too once had my down period of life where I felt like I lived daily life hanging on to a thread. I had 3 young children, a husband who worked long hours, and a mom who had recently passed away after an almost 4 year battle with liver cancer.
I woke up in a fog almost every day putting one foot in front of the other, praying I would make it through the day without breaking down in front of my kids. I put myself back together using the same steps Crystal did in her own struggle of survival living – although her reasons for falling into survival living are much different than mine.
So it shocked me when I hit chapter 3 and was just a few pages in when I started crying. Chapter 3 is the chapter on goal setting. Anyone who is a regular reader of my blog will know that I am a big fan of setting goals and working slowly at achieving them (hence the name of the blog “Snail Pace Transformations”). So why would reading about goal setting make me cry?
I wrote out a full page of prayers to God asking that same question and the next day during my run He started showing me why.I have set tonne of goals in the last few years , but I have not set a WOW goal in years.
My definition of a WOW goal

A WOW goal is a goal so big that you don’t want to tell it to the whole world not because you fear you might fall flat on your face when you attempt it (although that is a factor) but because the enormity of it makes the goal very personal and close to your heart.
A WOW goal is so big you can only accomplish it if God really did lay it on your heart and therefore He comes in and holds your hand every step of the way, picking you up when you fall, sending you words of encouragement when those voices of doubt say you can’t and patting you on the back when you make it one step closer.
In the pages of Crystal’s book is a testimony of a lady with a WOW goal and it had an incredible impact on me. I wanted a WOW goal. One that awakened my soul and gave me something to strive for each and every day.
I began to pray to God for a WOW goal, and He soon reveled one to me. Believe me it is big- so big I am keeping it fairly private just me and a few people close to my heart know what it is. God also gave me verses to go with my goal…
23 Listen to me now. Give me your closest attention. 24 Do farmers plow and plow and do nothing but plow? Or harrow and harrow and do nothing but harrow? 25 After they’ve prepared the ground, don’t they plant? Don’t they scatter dill and spread cumin, Plant wheat and barley in the fields and raspberries along the borders? 26 They know exactly what to do and when to do it. Their God is their teacher. 27 And at the harvest, the delicate herbs and spices, the dill and cumin, are treated delicately. 28 n the other hand, wheat is threshed and milled, but still not endlessly. The farmer knows how to treat each kind of grain. 29 He’s learned it all from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, who knows everything about when and how and where.
This verse to me is a daily reminder that I need to work hard and pay attention to God’s leading if I am to make my WOW goal. I am praying. I am studying God’s word, and I am being still – making sure every step I take towards this WOW goal is a step with God.
I encourage you to take these next few days before the new year starts to set your own WOW goal. Get out of your comfort zone, let God hold your hand and enjoy an amazing journey together.
I also encourage you to order Crystal Paine’s book “Say Goodbye To Survival Mode“ this book will help you get out of just surviving another day and into a life that leaves you smiling at the end of the day, anxiously awaiting the start of the next day.
