This is certainly true with social gatherings, birthday parties, wedding showers, baby showers and graduation open houses all seem to have exploded into elaborate events that require hours upon hours of planning, cleaning and cooking.
Remember what the focus is, it is to honor the person of the hour, and to allow them to enjoy time with their loved ones.
The focus is not the location, the food, the decorations or the invites.
Yes make sure the location is neat and tidy. Yes plan a simple menu. Yes put up some decorations. Yes send out invitations.
But your party does not have to look like it came out of the pages of “Living” to be a success. Remember there were probably dozens of people who created that shoot and there is only one you.
My husband and I host several yearly gatherings at our home, yet I don’t spend much time preparing for them. I gather the family for a “cleaning bee” a few hours before the event begins. I plan a simple menu a few days beforehand. I always keep clearance found paper plates and cups on hand. I also have box that contains dollar store party decoration –sort of a party kit in a box.
If its a birthday party I decorate with simple streamers and balloons.
Party planned and home ready, I sit back and enjoy the company of those I love.
