After writing my post “Why I Love Being A Fit Mom And How You Can Become One Too” I had a fair number of comments from readers wanting to get back into shape.
I remember being one of the ‘wanters’. I was fit up until the year I had my first child. He had horrible colic and rarely slept more than 1 to 2 hours at a time at night until he was 6 months old; in fact, he did not start sleeping through the night with any regularity until he was 4 years old.
Working out was not an option since I had read in numerous places that new moms should not pursue a fitness program unless they are sleeping for at least 5 hours at a stretch most nights.
Baby number 2 was a bit better at sleeping, but baby number 3 followed him pretty quickly and she was another colicky baby. However, she did start sleeping through the night by the age of 2.
By this time, 8 years of infrequent exercise and sleep had left me little endurance and energy. The final return of regular, full nights of sleep made me realize I could now start working out regularly again, but how did I begin? Where did I fit in a workout in my day as a mom? How could I afford to work out? How did I create a routine I could stick to?
This week I plan to share the ways I was able to make it work in my life and I hope that they help those moms out there who desire to either be fit for the first time or return to fit.

What I used To Get Back Into Shape
I started getting back into shape all those years ago with walking. However, with little children in the home and a hubby who worked long hours sometimes getting out for a walk wasn’t possible. On those days I used walking DVD’s –kind of corny I know but they worked. When I got into better shape I switched to something more intense.
