I am giving you several ideas of doable at-home spa treatments, but that doesn’t mean you have to do them all. This blog, Snail Pace Transformations, is all about reducing overwhelm, and pulling off multiple spa treatments could be extremely anxiety-filled for many. So pick one or perhaps two spa treatments you think mom would love and leave the rest for another Mother’s Day.
Create A Spa Environment
Before picking what ways you want to pamper mom at home this Mother’s Day, think about how to create the right environment to help her relax and destress.
Doing so requires a few items:
Scents
If mom is a scent lover, she will appreciate a scented candle going or perhaps a diffuser filled with her favorite essential oils.
This is the diffuser I own two of (I loved how the first one performed so much I bought another one). For relaxing essential oils, I suggest lavender, (this is my favorite brand).
Relaxing Music
No need to spend a dime on this, download the Pandora app and look for a relaxing station, or try YouTube.
Soft Lighting
Tea lights come in a large package at a reasonable price and can be placed around the room on whatever you have –pretty side plates make great tea light holders.
Food
Purchase an assortment of mom’s favorite wrapped chocolates in bite-size pieces for her to nibble on while she gets her toes painted.
Make sure she has her favorite chilled or hot beverage by her side during her spa treatment.
Comfortable Clothing
Does mom own a robe? Make sure it is clean and ready (make sure you clean it, don’t ask mom!). Perhaps she is more of a pajama pants and a t-shirt type gal. If so, make sure she has some clean.
If you have the money to splurge, treat mom to a new robe or PJs.
Concentrate On One Part Of The Body Or Go All In And Give Mom A Full Spa Day
Hands
Purchase some lightly scented massage oil and watch a YouTube video or two on how to give a hand massage. Follow up with painting mom’s nails.
Feet
Treat mom’s feet to a foot soak (this soak will energize her tired feet), followed by a foot massage (hit up YouTube again to figure out how) and finish up by painting her toes.
Face
Buy mom a selection of spa face masks and let her decide which one she wants to use. Join her if you wish and if you do remember to take a mom and child spa face mask selfie!
Hair
If mom’s locks are dry, treat her to a hair mask.
Don’t Forget These Two Relaxing Spa Elements
Bubble Bath
Mom’s usually buy the bubble bath, but then never get around to using it. This Mother’s Day put her stock of bubble bath to use and set the scene for a relaxing time.
Steps to creating a relaxing bubble bath environment for mom
- Make sure the bathroom is clean
- Place candles around the room (make sure at least one is a scented candle in a jar)
- Place two clean towels on the counter for her
- If she is a music lover, figure out how to fill the room with her favorite relaxing music
- If she is a bookworm, make sure she heads into the bathroom with a book
- Put a side table near the bath with a cold drink for her to enjoy
- Have her lock the door and keep small children away from the entrance for at least an hour
Extra Rest
Take the kids out for the afternoon and let mom nap for hours! Treat mom to a weighted blanket–I got one a while back and it has made falling asleep easier, it feels like a big constant hug.
I hope this article got your mind a-whirling as to how you can treat your mom to a spa treatment or two without leaving the house this Mother’s Day.
