Sure, signs of spring showed up in my area this week, and that means that warmer temperatures are returning. For me and my house, that means my daughter and I will be enjoying glasses full of this DIY Java Chip Frappe recipe.

I love Starbucks’ Java Chip Frappuccino, but unfortunately, my waistline doesn’t, and even using my tips on how to get Starbucks for less or sometimes even free doesn’t spread far enough to cover all our java chip frappuccino urges.
However, with the help of my blender and a bit of experimentation, I have concocted a close second with fewer calories (around 200 calories for a tall glass if you use skim milk and don’t add whip cream and chocolate drizzle) and less of a price ouch.
Here is the recipe:Â
- 2/3 cup of cold coffee
- 2/3 cup of milk
- 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup (we use this recipe minus the peppermint extract)
- 1/2 teaspoon of stevia (I use this brand)
- 2 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Â approx. 2 cups ice ( I throw in a few handfuls)
- Makes two grande size glasses
A Few Recipe Tips
- For a richer taste, try half in half instead of milk, or even a little vanilla or chocolate ice cream if you have some. (of course, this does add calories)
- This is a great way to use up coffee that went cold before you we able to sit down and drink it.
- For a protein boost, add a tablespoon of vanilla whey powder. (again, this does increase the calories of the drink)
- I have had my Oster Beehive Blender with a glass jar for years, and it is still going strong. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a new blender. It sometimes does get a bit stuck, but I find if I stop it and stir ingredients, it goes right back to blending drinks with no issues. I like that the jar is glass and that I have been able to order replacement parts off Amazon for times like when one of my kids accidentally threw out the rubber seal.

The minute I read “without the price” I had to check this out! I spend way to much money on ice coffee drinks (there’s a Starbucks inside my local Target, you get the idea, lol) Thanks for sharing! I came to visit you via Living Well Spending Less party!
