See my disclosure page for more information)Just One More Thing Before You Leave Home reads like a owner’s manual for late teens about to leave the nest. Full of practical advice on everything from roommates to car maintenance to budgets and more.
I found myself nodding in agreement with the advice David Gudgel was giving chapter after chapter often wishing I had this book to read before I left home over 20 years ago. My own son is 17 now and I will be adding this book to his reading list.
The book is made up of 10 parts and contains 30 short chapters. The author recommends having you child read a chapter a week during their senior year and going to breakfast once a week to discuss the chapter with them. This certainly would make for some great bonding time during what could be your child’s last year at home.
The chapters are written in a very casual style that I think teens will relate well with. In each chapter David Gudgel shares just a bit of his own story of his first few years out on his own and what he learned from both his mistakes and his successes.
