This is the first time that I have read a series that is penned by different authors (at least that I know of). At first I was afraid it would make the series seem disjointed from one book to the next but, I can honestly say had I not known that Kathleen Bauer was a pen name that several writers used to write this series, I would have thought Kathleen was a real life person and a talented author.
I read two books in the Home To Heather Creek Series….
The first title in the series I read was Before The Dawn, a heart wrenching story of three children who have lost a mother and a grandmother who has lost a child. I cried over many pages of this book, yet I also laughed. The book is set mainly on a family farm out in the middle of no where, with wide open spaces as large as the holes in the hearts of all the character’s caused by grieving a loved one. Through prayer and community the family comes together and started to heal.
Sweet September picks up just a months after Before The Dawn left off. The children are bonding with their grandparents and all are starting to heal from the tragedy of losing their mother. I found this book to be more lighthearted than the first. The book contains a mystery that causes the family members to come together to solve. I went into this book wondering if the children were going to be okay and left it knowing they would be.
If you are looking for good book family to get involved in, one that will welcome you in and let you view all their comings and goings and make you feel at home, I recommend visiting Heather Creek. I think you will find that the family there is realistic with an interesting mix of personalities but most importantly a great love for one another.
