Here is how I did in January with my goals for 2016.
Read one business book each month
I listened to Do Over by Jon Acuff on the Hoopla app this month. I learned that he and I don’t define hustle the same way, but I might just switch to his definition because then that would mean I do hustle, it is just that blogging isn’t my main hustle. Nope, I do what the author of Do Over defines as the family hustle. I work hard on my blog in the spare moments, but my number one job is helping to launch 4 amazing products into the world, my 3 children and my husband.
After finding the Hoopla app through my local library website this month, I am not sure if I will continue to use Audible after my free trial ends mid February. The app has a great selection of business books in audio form and it is free.

Return to cross-training
This month I concentrated just on yoga. I have never taken a yoga class before so I was a little bit nervous, after all I can’t even touch my toes.
I am now a month in and am hooked. I plan to continue classes three mornings a week for the rest of the year.
I even invested in some wild workout capris just for yoga–bought new with tags through ThredUp (psst…use my referral link to sign up and you get $10 in credit off your first purchase)
In February I plan to add in one to two days of swimming to my workout routine.
I really miss running, but I am taking it just one plantar fasciitis approved sport at a time until my foot is good and healed. Unfortunately running is so not a plantar fasciitis friendly exercise.
One daily treat only
This is not going well. I knew it would be my hardest goal and boy, was I right. Still, I am making some progress down to 1 treat. Perhaps 5 days out of 7 and then 2 treats the other two days. I need to work on portion control though, sometimes my one treat was a bit on the large size.
1 date day a month with my hubby.
My husband and I had a 1/2 date day in January. We got home from church around 11:00 a.m. one Sunday and marched right upstairs to our bedroom to take a nap. After snoozing for an hour or so we had lunch and headed out to see the new Star Wars movie. We finished up our date with dinner out.
Get rid of 30 items in my home each and every month.
I tossed 30 items for January and it was much easier than I thought to find those items. I think our home breeds clutter.
Finish an eBook.
THE ROUGH DRAFT OF MY EBOOK IS DONE!!! Sorry to yell, but I am so stinking excited. It will still be a while until it is ready for purchase, but it feels good to have the words out of my brain and on paper.
My Culinary Creativity
Try one new recipe a month.
I made a new recipe out of two recipes I already love. All the details will be on the blog next Monday. Let’s just say for now that the experiment was a yummy success.
As in the past 2 years, my WOW goal is something I am going to share just with a select few. This year’s isn’t blog related but it is still big and going to be a challenge.
Update: Going slow on this goal but progress is progress right?
My Word For 2016
This. Is. So. Hard! So many times this month I have gotten off track in one of my goals and then remembered–one thing.
I think I will be listening to a chapter or two of the book that inspired the word ONE as my word for 2016 each and every month just to help me keep focus.
