Last week something pretty cool happened. I reached the wow goal I set for 2014.

Set A WOW goal for 2015 And the book that will help you make and reach it.

what a wow goal is to me

A WOW goal is a goal  so big that you don’t want to tell it to the whole world; not because you fear you might fall flat on your face when you attempt it, but because the enormity of it makes the goal very personal and close to your heart.

A  WOW goal is so big you can only accomplish it if God really did lay it on your heart and therefore He comes in and holds your hand every step of the way, picking you up when you fall, sending you words of encouragement when those voices of doubt say you can’t and patting you on the back when you make it one step closer.

I still remember how I felt when I set it, I thought it wasn’t possible. I really thought I wouldn’t be able to reach it. I didn’t even like saying it out loud to people, or typing it down because I truly thought it wouldn’t happen no matter how badly I wanted it to.

My wow goal would be insignificant to many, but it was significant to me. I wanted to replace my husband’s income from a second job he had to stop doing when he started working in a different department of the hospital, due to the hours of the two positions conflicting with one another.

The loss of that job made our month to month budget pretty tight. I wanted to make our budget go from tight to breathable again. I set my goal at replacing that second job’s take home income.

I knew to do that I needed to make my goal a two part goal, first enlarging my audience and then increasing my sources of income.

With the help of my running partner picking me up when I got down, a few key bloggers  sharing my work and giving me great wisdom and advice, my husband pitching in more around the house, my children learning to cooking more, and God reminding me over and over I was capable,  I did it, WE DID IT.

Today I want to celebrate with you, because truthfully without my readers, I would have never reached my goals. Thanks for coming again and again to visit my site.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate with you than a giveaway of 3 copies of the book that inspired me to set my wow goal.

My friend Crystal Paine of Money Saving Mom has generously agreed to send 3 winners a copy of her best selling book Say Goodbye To Survival Mode: 9 Strategies To Stress Less, Sleep More and Restore Your Passion For Life.

Say Goodbye To Survival Mode Giveaway

It was Chapter 3, the chapter on goal setting, that when I read it I knew God wanted me to set a wow goal and stick to it.

Which brings me to you, I want you to set a wow goal for 2015.

As I write this there are  just over 5 weeks left in the year. Take some time in those 5 weeks to grab a copy of Crystal’s book and read it . Start thinking of how you can implement the strategies listed in the book. When you do you will find you have time for a wow goal.

Take some time to think of what you want that wow goal to be. Make sure it isn’t easy to reach yet not impossible (even though it seems right now that it is).

When 2015 begins lace up those running shoes and start working your way towards the finish line of your wow goal.

  1. Thanks for this encouragement. I need to iron out specifics, but my goals are to lose significant weigh, follow a schedule with my homeschooled kids, and change my daily default from criticism to encouragement.

  2. Lisa Muniz says:

I love your blog and enjoy reading your tips on Facebook. I would love to win a copy of Crystal’s book. 🙂

    • Lisa Muniz says:

I think the biggest thing I’d like to accomplish and the first thing that comes to mind is to lose some weight. I just went to the doctor for a check up and was politely told I am now in the obese category. OUCH!!!! I could stand to lose about 45 lbs.

  3. In the months since my newest baby was born, I’ve fallen out of the habit of waking earlier than my kids. I want to get back into that rhythm in 2015.

  4. Meredith Amand says:

Even though we have a brand new baby coming soon, in 2015 I want to give a lot more focus to my Etsy shop to give my family a little more of a push towards financial stability.

  5. I love this! I can’t wait to set my WOW goal. Some of the goals I already have are to go to the influence conference in September and to monatize my blog this year….and that my daughter will be reading by the end of the school year!

  6. My WOW goal for 2015 is to reach my fitness/health goals and maintain the new lifestyle. I was once a leader for a fitness organization, but today I am overweight. As I put on the weight I would keep telling myself and others that I was going to get a handle on this and get fit once more–that didn’t happen and the scale kept going up. I have been dealing with the reasons that I didn’t take better care of myself and have been changing that behavior.

  7. Lisa Patrick says:

Sounds like a very inspiring book. Maybe that’s what I need. I need to turn my whole life around, every facet of life. I mean a job, controlled health, ability to help others in hard times. Without good health, a job, and some means, you can’t help yourself or anybody else. You need God’s help in everything.

  8. My biggest goal to accomplish would be to get and stay out of debt.

    • Kathie, have you heard of Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace University” ? Dave is a Christian man who teaches others how to get out of debt, stay out of debt, and manage their money —- not only for their own peace of mind, but ultimately so that they are free to give to those in need. His goal is to help you be a steward of the money God entrusts to you, use it wisely for yourself/your family/your responsibilities, and to realize that living as God’s steward of His money means being able (and willing) to give alms (share your wealth with others as He directs you to) as well as to tithe (give back to God in order to say “This isn’t my money; it’s Yours; here’s the 10% off the top that You ask me to return to you.”).

  9. I so enjoy your encouragements and how they help to inspire settings higher goals. And even believing in possibilities again. Things can get pretty overwhelming at times and it can make me feel pretty lonely in the battle. Reading your posts reminds me that most of us are dealing with challenges right now. Thanks so, so much.

  10. Wow, I want to have “wow goal” too. I love this concept. I am on my way to completing a goal for 2014, although it is not necessarily a “wow” goal yet. I want to get a family literacy link up off the ground where bloggers can link up three posts a week that relate to books, reading, and literacy activities. I welcome you to link up your post today in my comments section and I will promote it across all my social media platforms. Thanks.

  11. Carmen Jimenez says:

I have Crystal’s book on my reading list. I would love to win a copy of it. Thanks for this giveaway!

  12. Kim Ehlers says:

Make a dent in the awesome book and e-book stash I’ve collected. I’ve bought so many books I know will be great and that I NEED to read but allow other things to interfere. Time to stop allowing that interference!

  13. My goal is to think of other people first and myself less.

  14. My number one goal would be to save a proper emergency fund!!

  15. My husband often tells me that I set too high of goals but honestly I don’t think I do. I also want to dream bigger and achieve more.

  16. Tami Smith says:

My biggest goal for 2015 is to get control of our family finances and start getting out of debt.

  17. Heather S. says:

    This is inspiring! Thank you

  18. Lori Watson says:

    WEIGHT LOSS!

  19. I want to get my doula business fully functioning and bringing in a decent income!

  20. Keeping an orderly home

  21. Oops! I left my comment on your WOW goal in your other story! Anyways, congratulations on your WOW goal!

  22. I would really like to have some money coming in from my blog in 2015. And to also finally have that emergency fund in place.

  27. I want to show down and enjoy the people in my life more.

  28. I would like to master the discipline of using only cash to pay for groceries in 2015.

  29. Jacqueline Y says:

i want to have all of our debt paid off with the exception of our van. We don’t have a lot compared to most families our size but I’d love the freedom it would give us.

  30. Congrats on your wow goal! one definite goal I have is spending more quality time with my growing family.

  31. I want to be clutter free. With a realistic cleaning schedule.

  32. I have so many goals for 2015, but #1 is paying off our credit card debt.

  33. I think the way this next idea works with goals would be categorized as “both/and.” My spiritual director recently reminded me that God has a plan for every area, and *every moment* of my life. His encouragement to me was to go as often as I can to the Lord and say “Lord, here’s a desire I have right now: ____; what do You want to do with that desire?”

Now: obviously, he said that to me because he’s known me for years, had just listened to some “I want to do this and that with my life” comments I’d just made, and because he listens to the Holy Spirit for things to tell specifically to me. All that to say that perhaps this suggestion isn’t for any of you, just for me. BUT in case it could be for you too, I thought I’d share it here.

God’s grace to you all 🙂

  34. Thanks for posting! This is a really great idea. I have several options for my wow. I’m definitely going to read the book to figure out which one is best to work towards first. 🙂

  35. I am recently unemployed and already using faith and every frugal tip I can think of to get through this. My health makes it difficult to find a new job so my goal is to continue to lower the financial stress in my family and not be a burden to them. I want to face this challenge with even stronger faith and they to find a way to earn extra income while taking better care of my body. 2015 will be the year I find balance. I just have to be open to what’s next for us!
    .

  36. Get control of my finances after being on medical leave due to being rear ended by a semi truck. I want to find my new place and I need to get my finances in order to be able to be at peace.

  37. I want to organize my daily schedule and get rid of clutter!

  38. i need to spend some time setting significant goals. This is great timing!

  39. Congrats on teaching your WOW goal! I am a believer of the power in settings goals especially small daily goals that keep me motivated. Thanks for your encouragement to stretch to a bigger goal.

  40. I would like to finish my degree.

  41. Katie Allen says:

My wow goal is to pay off my $13,000 student loan by the end of next year.

  42. The idea of a wow goal is a little scary to me. I have two goals that I will be focusing on for 2015: losing weight and blogging more consistently.

  43. my WOW goal is to create another income stream.

  44. I would like to continue to live on a very small (almost non-existent) income, and look for a few more creative ways to make a little money at home. God has amazingly helped me through this challenging time in my life.

  45. Love the ideas of WOW GOALS!

I like setting goals that are BIG and PERSONAL….sometimes telling the world about a goal takes the precious-ness out of the goal…most of my big goals in life I keep to myself (and my wife!)…until I actually make them happen – ten the world can find out!

Another thing I like to do is really get clear on WHY I want a specific goal to happen. I worry less about how it will happen or the specific process (HOW) I expect to take. If I am clear on WHY…the rest usually works out for the best.

I’ve written a bit about goal setting and the approach I use on my blog:
