Time Management Tip 22: Hold A Family Working Bee

Perhaps yesterday you read my post on how having less will make more time and thought but our house is so out of control it will take forever to declutter it all.

One person decluttering a home from top to bottom is a huge undertaking and yes it will take significant time. However, 5 people decluttering a home from top to bottom will take less time.

Why 5? well that is how many people in my family, you might have more or less helpers available.

If your helpers are too little to help in such and undertaking, have them cared for else where while your husband helps you declutter your home.

For instance my husband and I once enlisted the help of family and friends to watch the kids for a period of 2 days when they were very little, while we decluttered our home to get it ready to sell.

In those two days we removed 2 truck loads of no longer needed items, and cleaned and organized what remained.

After such a clean up I felt like my days were longer. They weren’t, I was simply no longer spending time sifting through,¬† digging in, and cleaning around piles of clutter.

If you have older kids declare a few Saturdays each year to be “Cleaning Bee days” and work from 9 to 5 cleaning and decluttering¬† your home from top to bottom. Make dinner take out pizza.

Then watch your available time for working on dreams  increase as the mess is decreased.

  1. Because I don’t have clutter and am able to clean in no time I almost feel guilty that I have time on my hands for fun. I have to stop and look to make sure I didn’t forget something. I have always been an organizer and clutter free so this is second nature to me. I am also lazy so it would take to much to clean.
