4 Weeks to A More Organized Home: Day 5

I was so glad to see that today’s assignment was on the light side.

Before going to bed Thursday night, my husband and I decided to let the kids have the day off from homeschooling. Everyone got to sleep in. I even slept in till 6 a.m..

Yes I know 6 a.m. is still early, but ever since I turned 30 my body seems to have forgotten how to sleep in. I can go to bed at midnight or later, and still somewhere between 4:30 and 5:30 I will awaken bright eyed. It is annoying, but I have learned to embrace  it. To avoid being grouchy however, I try not to stay up past 9pm.

The rest of the family however, does not suffer from my natural early rising curse. I saw the first family member at around 9 am. The last family member rolled out of bed close to 11.

Here is how I did on our very laid back day:

Day 5 Assignment

1. Get dressed in something that makes you feel great:

I got dressed but it was in the classic “mom uniform” a t-shirt with jeans that had just a bit of stretch to them.

2. Make a list of no more than 5-7 specific things you want to accomplish today.

I wasn’t a rebel like yesterday, I made a list and did all but number 7. However I did a 4 mile run with my son this afternoon and it wasn’t on my list. So I guess that is an even swap.

 

3.Complete your morning routine: I haven’t been the best about doing my normal morning routine these last 2 days. I did most of it this morning but not in any order. I have a feeling tomorrow when my husband starts his rotation of shifts I will get back into it.

4.Remove your couch cushions and clean out any crumbs, toys, or other miscellaneous items you find. Use an attachment on your vacuum to vacuum the cushions, underneath the cushions, and all crevices of your furniture. Spot clean the fabric, if needed. For a while I did not think this chore was going to happen because…………….

I had 3 couch potatoes on the only set of couches with removable cushions and they were showing no signs of moving for a while.

Later in the day though they vacated and I was able to get going on the assigned task. There was not much to be found under the cushions of the big couch. If you are wondering about the board, well lets just say its a long story involving 2 boys and a Wii game.

I wish I could say the love seat was just as clean, but no. I put the large pieces of paper and the tiny beads in the garbage and then gave it a really good vacuum.

They are both now free of all clutter and dust. I didn’t do our other couches because I bought them with no removable cushions to avoid such messes as you saw in the small one.

5.Set the timer for at least 15 minutes and do something you really enjoy and that relaxes and rejuvenates you.

It did not take me more than a few seconds to know what I was going to do. Here it is Friday and I had not yet watched this weeks episode of “Biggest Loser”.  I didn’t set the timer as I knew the show would be way more than 15 minutes and it was a laid back day so I had the  time to splurge.

Of course there is a saying my friends use to describe me “if I am sitting I am knitting”, and today was no exception. I worked on getting my new project going. Hopefully it works out my mom sadly is no longer here on earth to ask for directions, and she did not leave a pattern for the throw of hers that I am trying to copy.

Want to know what I noticed first about Money Saving Mom’s list today: No 7 things to part with. Which is good cause I already got rid of a truck load of things not too long ago.
